Foundation and Early Growth
In 2011, RTS Bumala was established with a vision to serve pastors and church leaders in rural Western Kenya who lacked formal theological training. Our journey began with conducting seminars to equip these leaders, laying the foundation for what would become a transformative ministry.
Expansion of Educational Offerings
In 2012, RTS Bumala expanded its reach by offering distance learning programs, starting with a Diploma in Theology in partnership with Mukhanyo Theological College, Pretoria, South Africa. This partnership marked a significant milestone in our mission to provide accessible, quality theological education to those who would otherwise be unable to attend formal theological institutions.
As the need for theological education grew, RTS Bumala continued to expand its offerings. Today, we provide programs leading to a Bachelor of Theology degree, as well as diplomas and certificates in theology. Our approach is Reformed in nature, deeply rooted in Scripture, and committed to developing competent leaders who can serve with integrity and passion.
In addition to theological studies, we introduced a unique Applied Agriculture module. This program equips students with practical skills that enable them to cultivate food for their families, improving their livelihoods while serving God in all areas of life. This holistic approach to education ensures that our students not only grow spiritually but are also empowered to lead effectively in their communities.
We have been able to give a number of pastors a set of theological books for their library and growth in the things of God
From humble beginnings, RTS Bumala has grown into a key institution for theological education and community transformation in Western Kenya. As we continue to expand our programs and outreach efforts, we remain committed to equipping servant leaders who will carry the message of hope, justice, and faith into the world.
